Thank you for considering our offering of yearling Angus Bulls. We are excited to have been in the beef business for so long and for being able to share the kind of genetics that will be profitable for our customers. I think you will find the quality end to end that will improve your cowherds: the kind the industry in stiving for. What an exciting time it is to be in the beef business!
We have sat on the sidelines and watched the breed have their ups and downs, watched the pendulums of trends and fads swing one way too far just to go back the other way too far. We have maintained our program without participating in those fads.
The bulls we are offering and our program consists around a couple of basic principals. Our cattle have to have long term profitablilty and efficiency for all of us in the industry. Our cows are maintained on grass and hay and our bulls are forage developed. They run on grass with their mothers until the grass runs out. This year we weaned our March and April bull calves in November. They received no creep. I probably could have gotten higher 205 day adj. weights by playing with the numbers and weaning them at the peak of the grass and starting on grain, but we opted not to do that. They are brought to our bull facility with big, sandy lots and started on free choice grass hay and 1/2 lb. of corn/oat mix and mineral. By the first of the year, we have them on free choice silage bales and moving them up on a little grain. As of this letter, they are on 3 lbs. of our corn/oat mix per head per day. I will get them to about 6-8 lbs. grain and they will stay on that ration. The growth and muscle are real and our calves don't fall apart. They keep getting better and better. Our yearling weights will be in the 1200-1400 lb. range. It sorts out the "grain cattle" from the efficient ones in a hurry. Our bulls usually gain weight on pasture when turned out with cows. This kind of hard-nosed selection we have practiced for years. Our cows need to be able to stay fat, breed back and raise a calf 50% of her bodyweight on GRASS. Feeder calf buyers have been very happy with the calves sired by Oak Row bulls and will seek them out.
Utilizing the right genetics and careful selection of efficient cows plays a huge role in developing the right kind of bull for your program and your bottom line. The bulls we are offering will improve your future replacement females and make very desirable feeders.
Select your bull, we keep him FREE until June 1, 2012.
We stand behind our cattle 100%. Give us a call and you will be suprised on how easy owning a real, herd improving ANGUS bull can be.
Thank you,
Doug, Amanda & Ryan
FEMALES FOR SALE:
We have had a number of folks ask us about any heifers or breds we will be offering for sale this spring. We usually have a number of these good females to offer along with our bull offering. Last year we sold 70 head off the farm and cut pretty deep in our herd. As a result, we are retaining all of the remaining females for replacements. Look to us in the fall if you need show steers or for females.
We appreciate the interest .
